Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

This is an excellent opportunity to use your expertise in government relations and public affairs to play a key role influencing strategies which make a real and positive difference to the lives of people affected by gambling in the UK.

About GamCare

Founded in 1997, GamCare is the leading provider of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, provide treatment for anyone who is harmed by gambling, create awareness about safer gambling and treatment, and encourage an effective approach to safer gambling within the gambling industry.

The Role

Due to rapid expansion, the GamCare External Affairs team is growing. You will join a team of four in a newly established External Affairs function, during what is a critical time for GamCare, as we make our case for the future of gambling support.

As Head of External Affairs, you will play an important role positioning GamCare as a key stakeholder, recognised for its impact as the leading provider of gambling support. Using your unique insight and expertise, you will positively influence decision-making and policy at the highest level of national and regional government, think tanks, public bodies, other charities, gambling focused organisations and the gambling industry.

Working closely with internal colleagues and partners across the National Gambling Support Network, you will have the chance to work as a part of a multi-functional directorate to influence the Government’s proposed reform of the UK’s Gambling Act 2005; the most comprehensive reform of gambling laws for nearly 25 years.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will act as an advisor to the Director of Policy and Communications and the wider organisation on external affairs approaches. You will also have the opportunity to lead the development of GamCare’s first general election manifesto, as well as contribute towards the development and delivery of a new organisational communications strategy.

This is a 6-month fixed term contract in the first instance, however there is potential for a permanent position.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need experience of working at a senior level in external affairs for an organisation in a complex stakeholder environment. You will also need experience of influencing national and local policy, with a track record of credible and effective stakeholder engagement up to the highest levels of seniority.

You’ll have set and delivered strategic policies including at organisational level and will have demonstrable experience of delivering high profile engagement and networking events. You’ll be comfortable setting, reviewing and evaluating business plans, and will have successfully managed and motivated a team, including providing objectives, and supporting their personal development.
